His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy took part in state celebrations on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the Independence Day

On 24 August 2022, on the 31st anniversary of the independence of Ukraine, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kyiv and All Ukraine, took part in the solemn event “Prayer for Ukraine” on the occasion of the Independence Day, which took place in the Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv. The Information and Education Department of the UOC reports on that.

The celebrations on the territory of the National Sanctuary “Sophia of Kyiv” were headed by Head of State Volodymyr Zelensky, accompanied by his wife Olena.

His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy was accompanied by Metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary, Chancellor of the UOC, and by Bishop Mark of Borodyanka.

The Primate addressed the President of Ukraine and the heads and representatives of denominations and religious organisations, congratulating them on the 31st anniversary of the independence of Ukraine.

After the end of all the speeches, the choir sung the spiritual hymn “Prayer for Ukraine”.

The Head of State congratulated the primates of denominations and the leaders of religious organisations on the Independence Day and thanked them for the spiritual support of the Ukrainian people.
