On 20 March 2023, in the Holy Dormition Kyiv Caves Lavra, a meeting of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church presided over by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kyiv and All Ukraine took place.
Due to the absence of the possibility to take part in meetings of the Holy Synod, His Eminence Metropolitan Lazarus of Simferopol and Crimea was excluded from among its permanent members.
After hearing the report of His Eminence Bishop Gideon of Makariv, the Synod released him in relation to health conditions from the positions of a vicar of the Kyiv Metropolitanate and the Father Superior of the Desiatynnyi Monastery of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in the city of Kyiv. With regard thereto, a new Father Superior for that monastery was appointed.
In relation to numerous cases of the discrimination of the faithful and communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and to the situation around the Holy Dormition Kyiv Caves Lavra, the Synod adopted the text of an address to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi. The Synod also addressed faithful children of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the people of Ukraine. The texts of those addresses will be published on official resources of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
After that, the Synod approved the appointment of the Mother Superior of the Convent of the Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos “The Healer” in the Odesa Diocese and the appointment of the Father Superior of the Monastery of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos “Horechia” in the city of Chernivsti.
In response to the request of the Rector of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary, the texts of the service to St. Basil (Bohdashevskyi) the Confessor and the akathist to the Synaxis of Saints of the Kyiv Theological Academy were approved for liturgical use.
