In relation to the fact that on the night of 17 May 2024, the church of the Desiatynnyi (‘Tithe’) Monastery in the city of Kyiv was completely destroyed by unknown persons, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kyiv and All Ukraine has expressed his support to the brotherhood of the monastery, the Information and Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church reports.
In particular, the Primate noted that the incident ‘caused great sorrow’.
‘The people who have raised their hands at a shrine of God have committed a great sin’, said the Archpastor.
The Primate emphasised: ‘At this tragic time, I pray for these people. Lord, forgive them, for they know not what they do (Luke 23, 34). And I wish the brotherhood of the holy monastery that the Lord may give them a new church, bigger and better than the one which evil people have torn down, so that they may continue their sincere prayers for our Ukrainian land and people and for the whole world at a church of God’s glory.’
